Our first Small Batch Series release is an Oak-aged Rye OPA. It is a resurrection of UNO, our one-year anniversary beer released on draft in November, 2011. We took our signature Oatmeal Pale Ale, added rye to the grain bill, and aged it in oak barrels for a month. The resulting beer has a soft malt sweetness highlighted with spicy and earthy rye malt, toasted coconut, soft pineapple, apricot, citrus, floral hop flavor and aroma with a dry finish of oak.

About the Small Batch Series
Our Small Batch Series is a line of seasonal single batch brews designed to be unique, interesting, and often experimental. Each one is made in small quantities and with a completely different recipe. The unique color, number, and QR code on each label identifies each batch, the details of which can be referenced on our website or by scanning the QR code with a smart phone. Small Batch Series releases are meant to age well over time, so drink a bottle now and save others to enjoy later. They will cellar best in a dark place around 50 degrees. Each batch is brewed and bottled by hand and undergoes a secondary fermentation in the bottle. Pour carefully so as not to rouse the yeast.

Google just can’t help revealing its inner foodie. First, it bought the long-running dining guide Zagat. Now HuffPost Food brings news that Google is teaming up with Dogfish Head to create a Pangea-inspired beer called URKontinent.

Google employees from around the world were asked what they would want in an ideal beer. Then, rare ingredients from different continents were gathered and turned into a beer by Sam Calagione and Co. The dark, Belgian-style ale contains wattleseed from Australia for its chocolaty, hazelnut flavor, toasted amaranth from South America to give the beer a bit of earthiness, Myrica gale from Europe for bitterness, green rooibos from Africa for its floral aroma, and honey from Google’s very own Hive Plex, because apparently Google is in on the beekeeping trend. If you don’t know what any of those ingredients are, Google them!

The video above proves that tech nerds are, in fact, much nerdier than beer nerds. Also, they have a little tasting via Google+’s Hangout feature, which is probably the only time it has been used ever. The first lucky people to try the beer will be attendees of this week’s Great American Beer Festival in Denver. The rest of you will just have to wait until Dogfish gets around to bottling it.

BRANDY BARREL AGED ONE

We’re excited to announce the release of our Brandy Barrel Aged ONE. You probably will recall the ONE was our first anniversary beer, and we’ve brewed it every year since. This Belgian-Style Strong Ale is brewed with large helpings of Belgian Caramunich malts and Round Rock honey. It features our unique house strain of Belgian yeast and clocks in at a formidable 8% alcohol.

We’ve mentioned before that one of our brewing passions is barrel-aged beer, and in that spirit we filled six oak barrels previously used to age California brandy with the ONE several months ago. The brandy character blends with the fruity Belgian yeast to create an incredibly rich and complex beer that can only be understood upon tasting it. Expect beautiful notes of honey, dark fruits, and wildflowers as the beer changes with each sip.

(512) Cellar

We are extremely pleased with this awesome beer and hope you will be too. Look for the Brandy Barrel Aged ONE out now in bars across Texas, and thank you for supporting (512)!

The Flying Saucer Fall Beer Festival. It’s that time again, but this time it is our 4th Fall Beer Festival! Many of you are fest veterans and know the drill, but for those that have never joined us, here’s how it works. We take over the park right here in the Triangle (over between Sago and Snap Kitchen) and have all kinds of fun. We will have FIVE tasting tents that separate the brews into more manageable categories. Expected tents are East Coast, West Coast, Texas, Captain’s Pick and Out of This World. Before all is said and done we will have poured over 40 different brews out there, including a few firkins of cask conditioned ales.

While the festival is free to enter, in order to imbibe you will have to purchase either a tasting ticket or choose from a few full pour taps available. Tasting tickets will be $25 dollars if purchased in advance, but on September 22nd online discounted ticketing will cease and the remaining tickets will be available for sale ONLY at the Saucer and tasting cards will bump up to $30 a pop. The day of the event, you will be able to purchase tickets at the front gate of the event. Each tasting card will give you access to 10 samples of brew and of course a commemorative tasting glass for you to keep forever and ever. You may be able to purchase a 2nd ticket if you have been pacing yourself properly and are sober enough for us to give you one with a clean conscience.

We will be serving Bavarian Pretzels and Beer Brats to soak up the booze and hopefully we will have some local food trucks post up inside the gates to help keep everyone fed. These fests are our favorite events of the whole year, so if you haven’t made it in the past, you MUST come check it out.

As always, more details to follow, but please feel free to share this event with your friends. The more the merrier!

Holy Smokes! Bottle conditioned Mesquite Smoked Porter bombers have been released and are now available at fine beer retailers in San Antonio, Austin, and Houston.

Bottle conditioned Mesquite Smoked Porter bombers

Ranger Creek MSP

Robust Porter smoked with Texas mesquite

Influenced by the classic Bamberg rauchbiers, our Mesquite Smoked Porter is brewed with a Texas twist, using malt smoked in-house over Texas mesquite. This dark mahogany porter has a velvety mouthfeel, and a roasty, dark chocolate flavor balanced with a subtle hop spice. The nose is warm and pleasing with aromas of cured meat, pepper, leather, dark roast coffee, and a distinct mesquite wood aroma. The Mesquite-Smoked Porter’s medium body, rich complex taste of roasted grains, coffee, dark chocolate, and meaty, smoky character make this perfect for any Texas day, be it the cold of winter, or the accompaniment to a summer barbecue. It pairs wonderfully with flourless chocolate cake, mousse, Texas barbecue, roasted and cured meats, earthy vegetables, and blue and smoked cheeses.
